Cutting down the amount of calories that you take into your body every day is a sure way to lose weight quickly and easily. There are many diets that have been designed to reduce the number of calories that you eat each day and one such diet is the 1200-calorie diet. Just as the name suggests, you are instructed to eat only 1200 calories a day while on this diet.
The 1200-calorie diet is designed for certain people. In most cases the only people that should follow this diet are women who are of little size, who want to maintain their weight. It is good for people who are not extremely overweight and who do not want to do a great deal of exercise. People who are overweight and who are willing to do some form of regular exercise are great candidates for this type of diet as well.
There are certain rules that much be followed when you are on the 1200-calorie diet. When you follow this diet you must eat at least five starches or bread group servings a day. You should include at least two servings of milk in your daily meal plan as well as three servings of vegetables. Vegetables are very important as there are considered negative calorie foods and you can consume them in large portions. Meat is an important part of this diet, as you should eat about five ounces of meat or a meat substitute and two servings of fruit. If you follow this diet perfectly then you will consume only 1200 calories a day.
The 1200-calorie diet is not a good diet for everyone. The recommended amount of daily calorie intake should be around 1800 and more for someone who does a great deal of exercise. Before starting this diet you should consult your doctor to see if this diet is safe for you.
