When you add aerobic exercise to any weight loss program, you will be able to burn the calories at a faster rate than just dieting alone. Doing aerobics on a regular basis helps to burn the fat and build lean muscle mass in your body. It improves the cardiovascular activity and may help to prevent the onset of heart disease by reducing your cholesterol level and lowering your blood pressure. The lowest number is the safest number for beginners to start with, while the higher number is the goal you should try to attain. This number is the rate at which your heart needs to be beating in order to burn up the extra calories while you are exercising.
