Dr. Robert Atkins first created is world famous Atkin’s diet ten years ago. When it was first created the Atkin’s diet was known as Dr. Atkins Diet Revolution. Since then millions of people have become avid followers of Dr. Atkins and they have purchased his best selling book. It has been said that nearly twenty-five million Americans have become followers of this low carb diet.
Many people are not sure how the Atkin’s diet works therefore they are skeptical about using this diet plan as a way of losing weight. Well in a sense this diet is fairly simple to use and follow. When you start this diet plan the first two weeks of the diet are called the induction phase. This is where you start getting your body used to the diet and you are permitted to eat no more than twenty grams of carbohydrates a day. Therefore you will be eating mostly meats, poultry and seafood. Included in this diet are such things as eggs and cheeses, oils and butter. It seems as first as if you are eating nothing but fatty foods. During the induction period dieters are not permitted to eat or drink milk, fruits, grains or cereals and especially breads. After the first two weeks five grams of carbohydrates can be added to their diet weekly.
The Atkin’s diet has been said to have more benefits than just weight loss. Some people have even said this diet will help to prevent cancer. Current estimates are that nearly fifty percent of cancers can be prevented through a healthy diet. The Atkin’s diet corresponds almost perfectly with the American Cancer Society’s recommendations for the perfect diet for optimal cancer prevention. Research has also shown that many participants of the Atkin’s diet have a decreased chance of developing heart disease and other heart conditions. What better reasons to start this diet?
