When you speak of carb diet, you usually mean the low carb plan of weight loss proposed by Dr. Robert Atkins. This diet is based on the premise that when you reduce the amount of carbohydrates in your diet, you will lose weight. This is because the reduction of carbohydrates in your body also leads to a reduction in the production of insulin forcing the body to use its stores of fat for energy.  

There are many different versions of the low carb diet. For example, in addition to the Atkins diet, you also have the Protein Power, Neanderthin, Life Without Bread and many others. Many people find such diets very hard to stick to because they really like to have bread, fruits and vegetables in their diet. The hardest part is getting started, but if you can make it past the first two weeks, chances are you will continue. Once you accomplish the initial phase of this diet, you will see weight loss that will really keep you going. Also you can gradually add carbohydrates to your diet, so you can start enjoying some on your favorite foods – in moderation, of course. 

The low carb diet is based on the fact that our ancestors did not have all the luxuries in their diets that we have today. Their diet consisted mainly of meats and did not contain an overabundance of carbohydrates. Doctors do not advise these diets for long-term use, but they cannot dispute the evidence that shows they do work in weight loss and in improving the overall health of the body.
