The South Beach Diet Features of the South BeachThe South Beach Diet, created by Dr. Arthur Agatston (a well known cardiologist), teaches you to eat the right fats and carbohydrates to lose weight. Dr. Agatston saw that many low-fat and high-carbohydrate diets didn’t produce very good results in his patients, so he decided to create a new diet plan from scratch. After extensive studies and tests Dr. Agatston saw that people who ate the right carbs and the right fats lost the most weight, so that was what he would base his diet on. Dr. Agatston knew that much of our excess weight comes from highly processed carbohydrates found in soft drinks, snacks, breads and other popular foods. By stopping to eat these “bad carbs” your body’s insulin hormone will start using fat for fuel instead of storing it. To compensate for this reduction in carbs the South Beach Diet does allow you to eat certain fats (such as olive or canola oils) and protein. The South Beach Diet program works in 3 phases. During the first phase (the strictest phase of the three) you are allowed to eat normal-sized meals consisting of lean protein foods (chicken, shellfish,…) and vegetables. During phase 2 you can also eat some certain carbohydrate-rich foods (only good carbs of course!). Phase3 is where you focus on maintaining your desired weight. The
South Beach Diet is a very popular diet program and many people are enjoying
great results with it (weight loss of 8-13 lbs in 2 weeks is not uncommon
with this diet). To find out more about this great diet visit the official
